Lines & Borders

Draw a line on the ground, floor, earth, whatever surface you are standing on, an imaginary line that you must respect and stay within, never crossing this line. Listen to the sounds around you, letting them fall on your body like rain, resonating on your skin like a drum, and, using an instrument, strike a note and listen to its sustained release that sonically replicates the physical nature of lines and borders.

Listening Like Water:

Begin humming and allow the vibrations of your voice (internal movement) to move you like the water is moved by its environment (external movement). Let your body be evaporated into the air and collected by the clouds, fall down to the earth like rain, and flow across the land like rivers.

Listen in circles and open your Ears, like a seed pod bursting - dehiscence.

Plant Sounds

Sit on the ground, either outside, or next to indoor plants. As you scan their undulating shades of green, think about how plants hear through their roots, their leaves, their stems, through the soil that they live?

Long Car Ride

While sitting in the car in silence for 15 minutes, take in all the sounds, bumps, turns, breaks, etc., and let these senses resonate throughout the inside of your body. Ask yourself how the listening scape is defined by the movement of the car, the movement of your body, the movement of your listening ears.

Breath

Listen to your heart beat. Define the beat with your breath, connecting lungs to heart to mind, through sound and movement.

Body As...

How do we see with our skin?

How do we hear with our eyes?

How do we feel with our ears?

I Will Hear You Soon

Listen presently, simply being still and aware of the moment. Pay attention to the sound of your internal voice, how does it differ from your external voice?

Listen backward, thinking about all of the voices you have ever heard, resonating together in one syncopated hum.

Listen forward, thinking of all the voices that you will hear in the future.

Finally, Think about how voices move, how they are vaulted out of our bodies like a rock on a slingshot. These internal movements that exist only temporarily once external, yet carry such immutable effects.

Say the words I am listening, I am feeling, I am being to close out the meditation.
